Lemon juice for your kitchen cleaning

Lemon juice for kitchen cleaning

There are several commercial cleansing products available in the market today. Innumerable kitchen cleaning products often leave you confused about which product to choose. Moreover, all these commercial products come laden with harmful chemicals and a heavy price tag. It therefore makes sense to use natural home remedies for cleaning kitchen purpose. Listed below are some of the ways where lemon juice acts as a great natural and instant cleansing agent:

1. Sink cleaning

Your kitchen sink is perhaps one of the most dirty and ignored places in the house. Although, you may take notice of the same, it is not feasible to scrub the sink yourself daily. Over time accumulated dirt makes your task trickier. This is where lemon juice comes handy. When combined with plain salt, lemon juice is a potent cleansing agent for stainless steel, brass and copper sinks and fixtures. A gentle scrub followed by a thorough rinse is all it takes. Citric acid also prevents premature rusting.

2. Dissolve mineral deposits

Several impurities and mineral deposits are built up in the drainage pipes/outlets of your sink and tubs. If not addressed on time, this may later clog the drainage system altogether. Therefore, it makes sense to act pro-actively and clean the drainage system on a regular basis. Lemon juice can effectively loosen mineral deposits and dissolve accumulated impurities in the drains of your sink and bath tub.

3. Get rid of food odors

Often time, left over food items dumped in garbage create puke inducing smell in the whole kitchen. So much so that it gets seeped into your clothes and before you know it, you are breathing the same air. Using room and air freshening sprays only make the matter worse by creating an equally nauseating odor. Lemon is a great fix for this problem. A small slice of lemon dumped in the garbage disposal removes all such odors. Peel of lemon or orange is also known to have the same effect.

4. Keep the dishwasher clean

Dishwashers may take care of your dishes but they too require regular cleaning. Rubbing a piece of freshly cut lemon over the inside edges of your dishwasher may help in removing dried and sticky food particles and clogged detergent from the dishwasher. Later wipe off with a damp cloth and run the dishwasher on hot water setting.

5. Clean a Stove-top or Oven Spill

No matter how proficient and alert you are in the kitchen, there would be times when your stove-top would be a mess and things would be spilling inside your oven. A mixture of lemon juice, water and baking soda does wonder to help you come out of situations like these with flying colors. Apply the mixture generously over the spills and let it sit for 10 minutes. Scrub gently and rinse away with a sponge.

6. Window cleaning

Windows in the kitchen are regularly exposed to lot of fumes, oil, grease, dirt, etc. Lemon juice mixed with some white vinegar and warm water can leave your windows shining bright in just a few minutes.
