The essentials and the inessentials of the kitchen

Hmmm…what is the mantra for cooking good and tasty food? Are the kitchen gadgets important to do so? Does the taste of food lies in the gadgets being used? Time for me to answer this! No, not exactly. Yes, we do need some basic cooking equipment to cook food but the latest tech gadgets are not really necessary.

Whatever has to be done has to be done by you and not your gadgets. But what about so and so chef cooking with those glossy and uber clean equipments? Let me remind you here that they are TV chefs and you are not and they get all that stuff for free, you don’t.

To cook some awesome food, you just need some plain utensils like, knives the plastic ones indeed), some stainless steel bowls, Sturdy tongs, sheet pan, a plastic or wooden cutting board, a vegetable peeler, a can opener, some pans and I guess, that’s it. See such a few items!

The Complete Inessentials

*BREAD MACHINE: Why do you need that? Go and buy some bread from the market!

*MICROWAVE: It may be the need of the hour due o tight schedule we follow, but it is not really essential if you think carefully.

*STAND MIXER: If you are not one of those baked food fan, then you can easily do without this.

*BONING/FILLETING KNIVES: I seriously don’t think we need it, but it is indeed worth to be a decoration in the kitchen.

*WOK: Only if you have enough space and cash will it appear useful to you.

*STOCKPOT: Throw it away; you are not cooking for hundreds of people.

*ANYTHING MADE OF COPPER : I hardly cook in copper utensils, moreover if I remember my biology lesson well, it reacts with food and so is dangerous.

*RICE COOKER: I guess a pressure cooker is enough. So, you don’t really need it.

*COUNTERTOP CONVECTION OVEN, ROTISSERIE, OR ‘ROASTER’: Not on my personnel list. You can think over it.
